Chen Clan Ancestral Hall (陳家祠)

Chen Clan Academy MTR

Built during the Guangxu Reign in the Qing dynasty (1888-1893), this building served as a temporary residence for the Chen's descendants while coming to the provincial capital for official discussion, imperial examination or litigation. It covers a total area of 15,000 square meters and the floor space occupies 6,400 square meters.

Tanglong:
In the old local dwelling houses in Guangzhou, Tanglong is a paling door. In the past, it was used to ventilate the room and to take precautions against burglars.

Located on an alley near Ximenkou MTR, I noticed this Tanglong door. At first, I thought it was an abandoned house. When I looked up, there were actually people living inside.

DAY 12 - May 21, 2015 - Sacred Heart Cathedral

Sacred Heart Cathedral (石室):
Yuexiu District (越秀區)

Located on Yide Road (一德中路), this cathedral covers an area of 2,754.15 square meters. Its dimensions are 35 meters of width (East-West), 78.69 meters of length (North-South) and 58.5 meters of height. It took 25 years to complete the construction in 1888.

2015 - Guangzhou (I)

DAY 10 - May 19, 2015 - Lo Wu Bridge

This morning, I walked across Lo Wu Bridge (羅湖橋). Lo Wu Bridge lies across the Shenzhen River connecting Hong Kong and Shenzhen (深圳). There was no line up at the foreigner line! Then I took the train (和諧號) to Guangzhou for a duration of approx. 75 minutes. A class 2 ticket cost 79.50 CNY including a reserved seat. If you miss the train, you can still take the following ones, but you will have to stand up unless there are available seats.
