2014 - Killington, VT

SNOWBOARD WEEK-END @KILLINGTON, VT!

Estimated duration by car:
> 30-45 minutes from Brossard, QC to the border located between Quebec (Highway 15) and New York State (I-87)
> Waiting time at the border depends the time of the day. For both ways, there were only 2-3 cars ahead of me. When you return to Quebec, speaking French is recommended.
> 30 minutes from the border to the dock via State Route 314.
> 10-15 minutes to cross Lake Champlain from Plattsburgh, NY to Grand Isle, VT by ferry. This is the only ferry which runs 24 hours year round (http://www.ferries.com/). It cost us US$13.55 ($9.50 Vehicle + $3.75 add. adult + $0.30 Fuel Surcharge).
> 30 minutes to get to Burlington.
> 75-90 minutes from Burlington to Killington

Accomodation:
My friend and I stayed at the Greenbrier Inn. Breakfast included. Excellent service. Very friendly. Meet Steve at breakfast, he is very nice and he gives good advices if you need to know anything about Killington.

Killington Peak:
> Elevation 4241`
> Opens at 8 AM

> Recommendations:
- Park at K1 Lodge, as early as possible. If not, it has a VIP parking which you have to pay US$12. If it is full, then park at Ramshead.
- Buy lift tickets online, try to find discounts.
> Food:
You can either buy food there or bring your own food.
> Lockers:
In the K1 Lodge, there is a bag free zone with free check-ins lockers. There are also lockers which accept only credit cards payment.

> Trails:
I did the Killington Peak, Skye Peak and Bear Mountain. Apparently, Ramshed Mountain is more a family zone. I'm an average! I snowboarded on the following trails:

- Bear Trax
- Bear Cub
- Great Eastern
- Skye Lark
- High Road
- Bitter Sweet =)
- Bear Claw
- Skye Burst
- Great Northern
- East Fall
- Bunny Buster
- Needle`s Eye

Supper:
We had supper at "On the Rocs Lounge". Live music. Delicious food. Warm atmosphere. I had the Steak Frites: grilled hanger steak with chimichurri accompanied by hand cut sweet potato fries with truffle mayo. I drank beer: Shed Mountain. My friend had  the Mixed Green Salad and the Roc and Bull Burger: 10 oz burger topped with caramelized onions, smoked Applewood bacon, Vermont cheddar cheese, finished off with a fried egg with hand cut Idaho fried. The restaurant prepares a big plate of salad with fresh veggies

The table next to mine ate the Chilled Seafood Tower. I gotta try it next time.

THE BEAST IS IN THE EAST!

SHORT VISIT @SOUTH BURLINGTON

Brunch:
We had a brunch at Magnolia Bistro, first Green Certified Restaurant in Vermont. Right besides the Church Street Marketplace, this place is hidden behind buildings. We arrived around 10:30AM. There was already a waiting line. We waited about 25 minutes. I had one of the specialty plates: Magnolia Eggs Benedict added smoked salmon.

Church Street Marketplace:
Shopping or walking around? Church Street Marketplace is the place to go. My friend told me that the marketplace is crowded with terraces during summertime. Gotta return!

I felt healthy in Vermont: green food and active life.

2014 - Ice Fishing @Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pérade, QC

http://associationdespourvoyeurs.com/

On February 1st, 2014, I went ice fishing with my coworkers at Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pérade, near Trois-Rivieres. Apparently, the best timing to go fishing is at the end of December (during the holidays) or at the beginning of January; basically when the season begins. The season starts at the end of December and ends in mid-February. Reservation required. Food allowed to bring. No fishing permit needed. No worry for people who are afraid of the cold. Rates and schedule are written on the Association des Pourvoyeurs website.

Arrival around 9AM.

This is our shelter!

For bait, we used pork liver and mini cooked shrimps. Pork liver is provided. Shrimps are sold there, but we bought ours at the grocery (cheaper price!).

Patience...

Catch of the day!

In order to keep the fishes fresh, people hide them in the snow in front of their house.

Are you hungry?

Besides fishing, there are other activities: skating (bring your own skates), walking, playing hockey, fireworks, dancing, music and more.
